Historic Federal Vaccine Launch at Oakland Coliseum
Oakland Coliseum Opens as the First Federally Funded Mass Vaccination Site
In February 2021, the Oakland Coliseum became one of the nation’s first federally supported mass vaccination sites. This historic effort, led by FEMA, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, and the Oakland City Government, provided vaccines to the general public and was especially significant for underserved communities. At its peak, the site administered up to 8,000 doses daily, helping protect nearly half a million people before its closure in May 2021.
